Baltzerisms

These are some little phrases that describe some of the beliefs of David Baltzer.

  1. The best leaders are first good workers.  Anyway, it worked for me.

  2. Most health care workers enter the field out of an altruistic desire to help people.

  3. Every thought leads to the next thought. 

  4. "Keep your options open."  (Rev. Warren C. Baltzer 1924-1991)

  5. Remember who you are.

  6. "Pray and work."  (Rev. Adolph F. H. Baltzer 1817-1880)

  7. Quality and finance are two sides of the same coin.

  8. The CEO sets the tone for the organization.

  9. I am taking care of patients as much in my CEO role as when I worked as a nurse.  It's just more patients and in a different way of providing care.

  10. It is a privilege to (be able to) serve.

  11. Know a lot, but don't be a "know it all."  Wisely use the knowledge of the team.

  12. Sometimes use an iron fist in a velvet glove.  Sometimes use a velvet fist in an iron glove.  Sometimes use a bare fist.  Try to not have to use a fist.

  13. The testor becomes the tested.  Everything gets tested.

  14. When I was young I read books about "power."  Now I read books about "leadership." 

  15. Tactical and strategic systematization leads to success.

  16. Grow or die.

  17. I like free coffee.

  18. I studied 4 systems of martial arts.  The first 3 taught me how to fall.

  19. I believe one of the premises of Lao Tsu's Tao Te Ching: "The way that can be named is not the constant way."

  20. Knowlege is structured in consciousness.  Language is structured in context.

  21. There is a management style called, "Do what I tell you to do, stupid, or I'll fire your dumb self."  Doesn't work.
